We have a lots of great workshops for both counselors and spouses this year. If you need more information about a workshop please feel free to Contact Us.

Our workshops are broken into three categories: Crafts, Leadership & Mentoring and Skills. In the past if you have mostly stuck to the craft workshops this is a great time to branch out. Challenge yourself, try to pick one workshop from each category!

Crafts

BLACKSMITHING - Basic Forging with Sam Verdonk and Andrew DeVisser

We will be demonstrating and teaching the basic skills in the art of blacksmithing and will introduce you to the basic tools that you will need and the proper methods for manipulating them. This will be a "hands on" workshop so please bring safety glasses (a must), gloves and maybe an old pair of coveralls as there is the possibily of getting burned. The cost will be $10.00 for propane and materials.

Cadet Boxes with Mike Groot

RPB Guidebooks falling apart? Cadets forgetting their kerchiefs, slides or Quest magazines. We have a solution for you! We will show you an easy way to make a wooden box to carry all these items and more! Sign up and receive your very own Cadet Box to use as a template to make for your whole club.

Fishing in God's Creation with Harry and John Kiers

This workshop will help counselors understand the fishing badge.Also use the Bible verses, why they are important.We will explain techniques and lure selection and some experiences.

Leadership & Mentoring

A Word From The Wise with Dick Broene

There's an old proverb that "a word to the wise is sufficient", but not many people are wise enough to think through what it means. Conference 26 will bring us some words from the wise. These words are old proverbs too, but they're not outdated. They're Proverbs from the Bible. This workshop will explore how to use the book of Proverbs for training...in the light of God.

Diffusing Explosive Emotions - Non Physical Responses To Disruptive And Violent Individuals" with Richard Lubbers

This is a workshop that will teach and equip its participants with proven techniques for talking people out of an agitated emotional state as well as techniques to guide individuals into a behaviour path that you wish to take them but they do not want to go. It will also teach the legal boundries of what you can and cannot do as a volunteer working with youth. Most of the information comes from a course taken called"Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention" offered by the Crisis Prevention Institute based in Pennsylvania.

MENTORING LEADERSHIP with Pastor Ron Noorman

We will be learning how to lead even as others learn how to follow by leading. I Cor1:1 "Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ". A mentor must be a person who as a prayer warrior is not afraid to advise, teach, coach, shadow and be shadowed and be an example of Godliness to others.

Youth Gang and Drug Awareness Workshop with D/Cst Rich Vanderboom

Daily in the news we hear about increased youth violence in our cities, recreational areas, and schools. Substance abuse and violence are common place in many communities both rural and urban.D/Cst Rich Vanderboom from the Hamilton Police Service Gangs and Weapons Enforcement Unit will explain the attractions to youth gangs, reasons for substance abuse, and how to identify at risk youth.

Skills

Building An International Camporee Shelter with Barry Bonvanie

Learn how to keep the rain out from within and under your shelter. Never allow the rain and mud to get inside. We will teach you how to build a sure way of keeping dry in the most adverse rain conditions. Come join us for an hour of shelter building which you can go home and teach your boys.

Geocaching with Dean Vuyk & Ray Scheepstra

This workshop will build on the GPS merit badge and introduce you to the high tech treasure hunt that is Geocaching. We will learn how to use a GPS device to search for hidden items and show you how this can help you explore God's creation with your Cadets. This is a great way to get outdoors with the boys and add a lot of excitement to those long Cadet hikes we all love.

Preparing For The International Camporee with Bill Pennings

Many Cadet Counselors who come to International Camporee for the first time, are not always ready for the camporee experience. This workshop is designed to give you some information, tools, insight and prepare you to be an effective cadre counselor.
